UNION COUNTY — Literacy Volunteers of New Jersey and Literacy Volunteers of Union County will honor Grammy Award-winning singer/songwriter and author Rosanne Cash, The Honorable Harold J. Wirths, Rev. Dr. DeForest B. Soaries Jr. who is a former Secretary of State, author and public advocate, and former LVNJ President Henry Goldsmith when the two groups celebrate “Improving Lives through Literacy” at a joint gala fundraiser on Wednesday, Nov. 13. at Shackamaxon Country Club in Scotch Plains.
This star-studded evening, hosted by Master of Ceremonies Brian Thompson of NBC 4 New York, is designed to raise critical funds for Literacy Volunteers, which dramatically improves the lives of functionally illiterate adults throughout New Jersey by teaching them to read, write and speak English.
Literacy Volunteers recruits, trains, supervises, and supports volunteers to provide free, student-centered tutoring for adults struggling to read, write, and speak English. The non-profit also provides GED and Citizenship Test preparation programs.

Literacy Volunteers Gala 2013 will include cocktails, dinner, honoring ceremony with a special presentation by Rosanne Cash, music, and silent & live auctions. New York comedian and actor Dave Goldstein, who has appeared on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien, will serve as the auctioneer.
