LINDEN — New Jersey Safe Routes to School, a statewide initiative to enable students to safely walk and bicycle to school, will be providing $200,000 to Linden for that purpose.
“I am pleased to announce that the City of Linden will be receiving $200,000 from the New Jersey Safe Routes to School program to improve pedestrian safety near School 1” said Sen. Nicholas Scutari. “This funding will make it easier and safer for not only our children and parents, but for all residents in Linden who like to walk and bike.”
Funding will go towards the installation of safety measures along the walking routes to and from School #1 located on Wood Ave between Gibbons Street and Gesner Street.
The proposed improvements include: Installation of additional flashing school crossing signs; Traffic signal pedestrian push buttons with R10-3E signs; Bump-outs and raised textured intersection pavement and crosswalks outlined with long life thermoplastic traffic stripes; Curb ramps where required along with detectable warning surfaces on all existing and new curb ramps; Bike racks; and Replacement of deteriorated or missing concrete curb and sidewalks along walking routes to and from school.
“Our children’s safety is our top priority. This funding will go along way in helping do that as they go to and from school” added Scutari.
