LINDEN — On Oct. 19 at 1:59 a.m. officers responded to the 800 block of Gilchrist Avenue on a report of a fight in the street. Upon arrival, a group of individuals began to disperse when an officer observed a man walking away from the scene holding something in his waistband.
The officer approached the man, Devon Jarome Candia, 28, of Linden, and fearing that he may have a weapon, frisked him. The officer allegedly retrieved from the man’s waist a black imitation Glock 26 BB gun. When asked about the weapon, Candia allegedly said he was using it to shoot at animals. He was placed under arrest and charged with unlawful possession of a weapon and possession of an imitation firearm.
At headquarters, Candia was also found to have contempt warrants out of Linden, Elizabeth, Plainfield, and Newark. He was being held on $7,500 bail on the weapons charges, and another $7,300 bail on the warrants. A court date was set for Friday.
