CLARK — The students in Meghan Bowers’ fourth grade music class at Frank K. Hehnly School in Clark are combining language arts knowledge with music. In the first weeks of school, fourth grade music students review and learn rhythms. Rhythms are musical syllables used in the pronunciation of words related to melodies. Students then reviewed the use of syllables in the English language and learned that there’s a rhythm for every syllable of a word. To dig deeper into rhythms and syllables, students were then asked to figure out how many syllables were in their first and last name, and to place a rhythm with each syllable. Each student created said rhythm for their name on a note card, and shared it with the class during the next period.
