HILLSIDE — Hillside Public Library closed Wednesday, Aug. 28, due to a flash flood. The library has been cleaned up, but the repairs are extensive and no clear date has been set for reopening. It will not be open until at least some time in October. Until then, the public libraries in Elizabeth, Roselle and Mountainside have extended borrowing and computer privileges to Hillside residents.
Other libraries in Union County may offer services to Hillside residents as well, residents should call ahead to verify. Updates will be posted on the library website www.hillsidepl.org and on Facebook. Online resources are still available through the website such as research databases on New Jersey Clicks, E-Books, E-Audio Books, Freegal free music downloads and Rocket Languages.
No books or computers were damaged. The carpet will be replaced with a non-porous tile for easier cleanup if such an event occurs again in the future. The staff of the library continue to work both at the library behind the scenes and throughout the municipality at different locations.
