CRANFORD — A weekend of celebrations began on Dec. 5 for Margaret Steiner, a fourteen year resident at Atria Senior Living in Cranford as this Harley Davidson motorcycle riding great-grandmother celebrated her 100th birthday with friends and family.
Four generations of family gathered in the Atria’s Country Kitchen including her son Ralph, daughter Judy, their spouses, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren along with many others who came from all over to celebrate her centenarian birthday.
A slide show titled “This Is Your Life” showcased many years worth of pictures of Margaret dating as far back as the 1920s.
Margaret was born in Elizabeth and moved to Union when she was 5 years old. It was there in Union that she met her husband John, a Union Fireman who swept her off her feet.
Margaret lived her life with a passion of singing that she still showcases at Atria Cranford during Choir and Singercize. Her voice belting out the words with a passion that matches no other.
Margaret wasn’t afraid to take life by the horns. She enjoyed fishing on Sunday’s and would drag her husband along for a small competition on who could catch the most fish.
Of course, Margaret — or Marge as she was affectionately known —would always win but that is no surprise.
Her competitiveness was never more apparent than on the tennis court where she won many medals. Marge was never afraid to hit that ball and made sure that she got better with each tournament she entered. She’ll proudly show some of her medals which are showcased in her room.
Marge can be found starting her busy day in the living room joining an exercise class, then onto bingo, choir, and social. She’s no shy lady when it comes to talking and making friends with everyone around her.
