Route 1 and 9/Tonnelle Avenue in Jersey City to be closed tonight for emergency repairs

TRENTON — New Jersey Department of Transportation officials today announced the closure of Route 1 and 9/Tonnelle Avenue in Jersey City tonight for emergency repairs to a water main that ruptured late last night.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20 through 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 there will be no access to northbound Route 1 and 9/Tonnelle Avenue from Tonnelle Circle. Crews will be excavating and replacing pipes in the area.

The following detours will be in place:

Northbound 1&9 Truck Route; continue straight on Communipaw Avenue to John F. Kennedy Blvd, make a left at John F. Kennedy Blvd, a left at Manhattan Avenue and a right back onto northbound 1 and 9/Tonnelle Avenue (north of the closure.)

Southbound Rt 7; continue onto St Paul’s Avenue, make a left at John F. Kennedy Blvd, make a left onto Manhattan Avenue and a right back onto northbound 1 and 9/Tonnelle Avenue (north of the closure.)

Westbound Rt 139; Take the westbound Rt 139 Upper level roadway, make a right on John F. Kennedy Blvd, a left onto Manhattan Avenue and a right back onto northbound 1 and 9/Tonnelle Avenue (north of the closure.)

Detour crews and the State Police will be on the scene through this emergency repair, addressing any issues.

Variable message signs are being utilized to provide advance notification to the motoring public of all traffic pattern changes associated with the work.
