Kenilworth adds three police officers to make up for manpower shortage; training begins immediately

KENILWORTH — Police Chief John Zimmerman of the Kenilworth Police Department announced today that on Jan. 8, the department hired three new officers to replace a manpower shortage that had happened through attrition.

The three officers, Sean Kaverick of Kenilworth, Kevin Fernandes of Kenilworth and Matt Torre of Toms River, were hired and will begin the John Stamler Union County Police Academy at the end of January, and are scheduled to graduate the academy in May.

“These recruits will undergo the tedious task of the Police Academy, which includes physical training, and many lessons of law enforcement related areas to prepare them for their duties as Kenilworth officers,” said Zimmerman.

The new officers were sworn in at the Jan. 8 Kenilworth council meeting Jan. 8 with several of their family members present. The hiring took effect as of Jan. 17, which coincided with the start of their Police Academy training.
