NYC man shot dead in Elizabeth, police still seeking information

UNION COUNTY — The shooting death of a New York City man in Elizabeth Tuesday night is under investigation, acting Union County Prosecutor Grace H. Park and Elizabeth Police Chief Patrick Shannon announced last week.

The victim has been identified as Mamuka Chamiashvili, 41, of Brooklyn. Police responding to a 9-1-1 report of shots being fired arrived at the area of East Jersey Street and Jacques Street in Elizabeth shortly after 10:15 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 16, and found the victim at that location.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. As of midday Wednesday no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting, and an intensive joint investigation involving detectives with the Union County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Task Force and the Elizabeth Police Department remains active. No additional information about the incident is available at this time.
